Radio Satan

Illustrating a Truth of Overcoming Shame

In our day, we know by science and technology that there are invisible radio waves filling the air around us. If we have the right receiver, we can tune into any channel we want to hear. This gives us a perfect picture of the spiritual life. Invisible beings are continually bombarding the spiritual atmosphere around us with messages for us to hear. Not all of those messages are good! Radio Satan plays all the time with a frequency that can drown out other signals.

Fortunately, we can count on our God to send messages of love, truth, grace and encouragement our way. The tone of His messages is always peaceable and pure, gentle and filled with truth and mercy. How different are the messages playing on Radio Satan! The content is always condemning, full of vicious accusations against ourselves, others and our God. The tone is badgering and merciless. Why do we listen to it? Why do we let it drown out the Voice of the One who loves us?

Adam was the first one of us to listen to Radio Satan. Do you remember what the Lord asked him when Adam said he was hiding in shame due to his nakedness? He asked, "Who told you that you were naked?"[i] Adam surely thought that he was thinking his own thoughts. No! He had been listening to Radio Satan. One Day the Accuser and his defiling messages will be cast down from on high. Until then, we will need to learn how to turn off Radio Satan ourselves.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 3:17-18

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God." Revelation 12:9-10

Prayer

Dear Jesus, I so desire to see Your salvation, power, kingdom and authority come to the whole earth. Since that won't happen until the Accuser is cast down, help me join the army of my brothers and sisters who have learned to cast the Accuser down in their own lives. Forgive me for all of the many times when I have given my ear and my thoughts to the messages of Radio Satan: accusing others, condemning myself and even blaming You. Wake me up whenever it starts to cast its spell upon me, so I can turn the dial away. I want to only listen for Your soft, clear messages of grace and truth. I want my heart captured by mercy for myself and for all others. Then, I can receive the gospel promise that my own life will be filled with saving power and kingdom authority.
